Hello all!
Today I am going to speak on 3 things that us (Florists) want you all to know (regardless of the timeline)
- Greenery doesn’t always mean cheaper. Some of my favorite pieces of greenery to use in weddings cost over $10 a stem. You could easily get a garden rose for the same price as 1 stem of greenery (whatttt). Here is just a quick example… Everyone loves the “loose greenery” look on tables, but they can add up fast!

- Secondly, DIY does not mean easier. I have some couples trying to cut costs think that they can just do all of the bud vases or maybe the loose greenery (above right image) on tables. I totally believe that my couples are fully capable at putting a couple of flowers in vases or laying greenery, but there is more than goes into this process than just those two elements. You are going to need to figure out what to order, where, and when to have them delivered. Maybe you know the exact flowers you want to order. Maybe you know of a floral supply store. Maybe you have a surplus of time. Odds are, all of these things would require a lot of time and research to fulfill. Then, heaven forbide, what would you do if some flower doesn’t come in? Or maybe it comes in the wrong color? As florists, we do a lot more than just design. Our goal is to design a wedding that you will just be able to enjoy.
- Lastly, one thing I love to tell people, is do not be afraid of color! Color is our friend! I know some people think that whites and greens are a classic color (which they are), but they can be a little bland. Try adding pops of blush, yellow, or lilac. Of course, choose colors that will compliment the day – but do not be afraid of color!
That’s it for me! Hopefully you learned something from this Iowa Florist!
