03/14 – Sermon Sunday

#SermonSunday!!!

Yo, getting to this late – sorry. If you are keeping up on my socials, you’d know that this weekend we spent (almost) every waking moment working on the greenhouse. That being said, I still had time to go to church and take some notes for ya’ll, so let’s get to to!

Yesterday, Veritas Christian Church, out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was preaching out of the book of 1st Corinthians 14.

Now, if you have done any reading out of this passage, it is all about prophecy and speaking in tongues. WHATTTT. You hear ’em right. Some things that are fascinating to learn about, but not things that we see often today. Why is that? Well, I personally believe that God is speaking to us the same amount as he did when he walked the earth, but now inside of us through the Holy Spirit.

Some days I wish God would audibly talk to me (which he still does to some people – but not all), but often times, his voice is soft through the spirit. Anywho, here was the main point of the sermon. “The best church for insiders and outsiders is one that prioritizes love and clearly communicates truth.”

If everyone is proficing and speaking in tongues, how is anyone expected to understand the Gospel? If our hope as Christians is to glorify God and lead people to him, we cannot do the latter without preaching something that is understandable. Here is how we can best us the gifts we as a church have been given:

  1. Prioritize Love
  2. Prioritize Truth
  3. Participate in the Church
  4. Put God First in all things

In what ways can you do one of those 4 steps this week? I know personally, I have been working on how to pick out pieces that I love about people that are hard to love. Let me know either in the comments – or as a DM 🙂
