Hey all! Kathryn the farming florist here!
I have had people ask me all about garden starting. Some want to do it for fun… some want to start a cut garden for others to enjoy, regardless of your reasoning here are my top 3 best books for starting a garden.
- Floret Farm’s Cut Flower Garden: Grow, Harvest, and Arrange Stunning Seasonal Blooms (Gardening Book for Beginners, Floral Design and Flower Arranging Book) (Floret Farms x Chronicle Books) . This is one of my favorite books of all time because Erin at Floret does a great job at giving you a limited amount of flowers to start with and what do with them from start to finish.
- The Flower Farmer by Lynn Byczynski. I’ll admit this book is a little old school. It does not have all of the flashy images that Floret does, but it is a wealth of knowledge. Throughout this book, you learn what works and what to do if it doesn’t for some reason or another. It’s a must!
- Cool Flowers: How to Grow and Enjoy Long-Blooming Hardy Annual Flowers Using Cool Weather Techniques by Lisa Mason Ziegler. Once you understand cut flowers during the summer, you will want to have flowers as soon as you can in the Spring. Lisa better teaches you about cool flowers and how to extend your season with fall and spring planted flowers.
Again – there are many many other books that are lovely to read about gardens, but I would say that these are my top 3 choices to creating a beautiful garden in your backyard!
