Hey everyone! It’s Kathryn – the Florist from Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Today I want to share 3 questions you should ask a potential venue from a florist’s perspective. These questions will hopefully help you gauge their passion (or lack) of flowers.
- Is your venue complimentary to flowers? What I mean by that is…. really do you value flowers? They might not be answer to answer this on the spot but things I would listen for is “our venue is very clean to compliment flowers.” Or possibly “Yes, we chose ________ to plant outside of the venue to bring a floral element to all our guests.”
- Which florist have you worked with before? Oof… one of my favorites because if a venue owner cannot name the florists they’ve worked with…. then do they really care about the floral element? Now, I get there are a lot of wedding florists, but if they’ve been in the industry for more than 3 years, they should know at least 1 florist personally. The follow up application would be to look up their photos and try to find the latest photo they tagged a florist. Are they tagging them in the socials? That shows me that their words and actions are matched.
- How is your venue helpful for florists? This is another question that they might be set back by, but what I’d look for is elements of their venues that are helpful. For example, having a large fridge helps keep the flowers cool all morning before you need them. Another example would an easy access to the reception for a florist’s van. These are not NEEDs for the florist of course, but it does show that the venue respects our craft.
Again, there are a lot of questions you should ask a potential venue, but these help you decide from a floral perspective.
Let me know if you have any questions!
