3 Best Questions to Ask a Caterer (From a Florist’s Perspective)

Hey all! Kathryn Miller from Beautifully Bloomed here!

Not often do I get questions about caterers but when I do, I want to give you 3 best questions to ask a caterer from a floral perspective.

  1. Are there any flowers that you do not specifically work with? The reason I ask this question is that there are some flowers that are poisonous if eaten. Now, I would never offer those flowers for your cake but if a caterer does not know those specific flowers to look out for… then they are not super well versed in the floral industry.
  2. Any preferences of flowers on the dinner tables? This is another good question. This mostly has to do with the different placement of their food stands. If they are super low (and they should know their height) then they would not like greenery on the tables. That could cause a fire, a liability, and more. This is just a simple question that will help determine how you dress up your tables.
  3. Whose a florist you admire? Ooh, if you’ve read any of my other blog posts you would know I love to ask each and any other vendor their favorite florist because that means to answer – you have to know at least one. If they do not know one… that’s a bit of a red flag for me.

Again, there are other questions to ask caterers but these are some from a florist’s perspective.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
