3 Things a Makeup Artist Wants You to Know

Hello all! Kathryn the wedding florist here!

Today we have Blake from the Skin and Brow Bar! This interview is a big deal to me because Blake was actually MY makeup artist for my wedding 3 years ago. I loved that I can give a personal recommendation as well as a professional recommendation. Anyways- she is going to tell us the 3 things a makeup artist wants us to know. Read more and check her website here.

  • Location: We always ask if the client prefers our team to travel to them, if the venue has a makeup and hair room with great lighting? Having a place to set up and good lighting is key to a seamless morning for the makeup artists. We offer in house options at our 1700 sq ft.
  • Good Skin = Flawless Makeup: We will have clients bring in inspirational photos of what they would like to look like the day of their wedding, which is very helpful for makeup artist to understand the amount of glam or natural look they are going for. Having pre prepped skin is going to be key in giving the Bride a flawless application. We recommend getting a facial 2 weeks before the wedding to give their skin a soft, glowing canvas for us to work with. Dermaplaning is a great option, with a hydrating masque.
  • Not all artists are alike: Communication is key in getting the results you want. Coming prepared to the trial with multiple photos is helpful so there is no communication error of how glammed or how natural the bride wants to be. One person’s definition of natural might be another’s “full glam”. Having an idea of what you would like to your bridesmaids to look like is also extremely helpful in makeup to keep the morning of go seamless. The color and theme of your wedding will also help us to determine which makeup look would fit the aesthetics.

“My name is Blake I am a Licensed Esthetician, I have been in the industry for 13 years. I have been working with brides for 10 of those years, I own the Skin And Brow Bar & SB Bridal Lounge in Cedar Rapids, IA. We have recently expanded our team to accommodate larger wedding parties and opened a beautiful 1700 sqft spa on the NE side of Cedar Rapids, where we can now accommodate your entire bridal party the morning of your wedding. We offer in house packages that include breakfast treats, coffee and a mimosa bar. I love being a part of a Brides big day and making her feel beautiful.”

Wow – I learned a lot! If you have any questions – feel free to reach out to Blake. Again here is her website and I’ll link her Insta. here.
